Video: Animation shows fly-through of Falcons' new stadium

January 20, 2014

Check out the Atlanta Falcons’ new, ridiculously cool stadium

Video Animation shows flythrough of Falcons new stadium - Image 1A series of conceptual drawings were brought to life on Tuesday when the Atlanta Falcons released a video showing the 3-D computer model of their planned new football stadium and, holy cow, is it awesome. The dramatic music that seems ripped straight from the soundtrack of an action movie certainly doesn’t hurt.

To review, you saw:

  • A retractable stadium roof inspired by the oculus in ancient Rome’s Pantheon, according to the stadium’s official Web site
  • Floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking Atlanta’s city skyline
  • A 100-yard long bar, which will be open to all
  • A “technology lounge” set aside so fan can check in on their fantasy teams
  • Several luxury zones for club-level ticket holders
  • A “360-Degree HD Video Halo Board,” which is probably making Jerry Jones lose his mind.

About that last point, the halo board is the first of its kind, “a true game changer,” according to the stadium’s Web site. For one, it’s 58 feet tall, or nearly five-stories, with a 1,100-foot diameter, making it the largest video board in the world. Unlike the Jumbotrons of yore, this means ever person in the stadium will be able to easily view instant replays. Alas, as exciting as it all sounds, the $1.4 billion stadium won’t be in use until the 2017 season, the Atlanta Journal Constitution reports. The Falcons will also have to share the space with Atlanta’s MLS team, NCAA Final Four basketball and various concerts and live events.
