GARY — The repair of the roof of the Genesis Center will cost thousands of dollars more than anticipated.

The Board of Public Works and Safety on Wednesday approved a change order for the repair and blamed the change on a lost email that kicked the price from $406,828 to $424,355. E.C. Babilla, a Gary company doing the work at the downtown convention center, emailed city officials about discovering extensive water damage to insulation beneath the roof in June, but the email was “inadvertently deleted,” according to documents read at the meeting. The board approved the $17,527 change order.
