Roof It Forward - Is Your Roof Leaking?

March 30, 2023

Leaks can range from minor to major severity. However, the more severe the leak becomes, the more extensive and expensive the damage and repairs become. By learning the signs to detect a leak, you can catch it before the damage is too much for your home to handle.

Water Spots Or Stains

Water stains appear as yellow or brown puddles or streams on your ceilings and walls. These stains and spots vary in size depending on the leak. They can often be located in the center of a room, but can also appear in corners. If the water from the leak has started to appear on your ceiling and walls, there is a possibility that there is already mold and rot. Keep an eye out on your ceilings and walls for water stains so you can find any issues as quickly as possible.

Mold On Exterior Walls

If you spot mold, fungus, or moss on the siding or brick on the exterior walls of your home, this could be a sign of a roof leak. These types of growths thrive in moist and wet conditions, meaning it's likely that water from a roof leak is coming down through the walls.

Dripping

Dripping water is one of the clearest signs of a roof leak. You may hear dripping in your attic or near your ceilings. This is a sign of an active water leak. The dripping may occur intermittently, but that does not mean that the leak has been resolved.

Curling Shingles

Curling or buckling shingles are telltale signs on the roof of a roof leak. A curled shingles will not be able to properly protect your roof and leave the underlayment susceptible to water. You may be able to see buckled shingles from the ground, but to confirm you should have a trained roofing contractor perform an inspection.
