U.S. housing starts fall as construction rebound slows

A sharp 31.7% drop in multifamily construction contributed to a 14.4% overall decline in U.S. housing starts in August. The fall to an annualized rate of 956,000 housing starts marked the sharpest month-to-month slowdown since April 2013. Issuance of new building permits was down 5.6%.
